Dental Crowns and Bridges

Dental Crowns and Bridges are a great, affordable alternative to implants!

For our patients who have lost a tooth or many teeth, dental crowns and bridges are a good alternative to implants, which are often much more expensive. Which option is going to be right for you will depend entirely on your situation, so give us a call today to discuss whether or not dental crowns and bridges can give you the smile you’ve always wanted! Our Southampton, PA dentist office provides these treatments to a wide variety of patients and can help you determine whether or not this is the right solution for you.

What are dental crowns and bridges?

Crowns and bridges are actually two very good solutions for missing teeth. Both are fixed and cannot be removed, unlike dentures. Both are designed to replace missing teeth, providing a very natural look to your rows of teeth.

In the simplest terms, a bridge fills the gap between missing teeth by attaching an implement between two existing teeth. On this implement, fake teeth are placed. A crown, on the other hand, tops an implant, giving it a very realistic appearance that is extremely low maintenance.

When you choose a crown, it essentially covers a damaged tooth, both making it look whole and giving it strength, so that your tooth still functions normally. These crowns are usually made out of ceramic or porcelain, so they match the rest of your teeth in both color and texture. Crowns are often used when a single tooth needs to be replaced or repaired. They can also be a preventative measure, to protect a tooth that has already been weakened from becoming weaker or more damaged. Their most often use is as a top for an implant, however.

Bridges, on the other hand, are the ideal choice if you are missing more than one tooth in a row. Teeth that are left behind when you have more than one removed can start to shift and migrate. A bridge fills the gap and keeps the surrounding teeth in line. The bridge is cemented to the surrounding teeth (or sometimes to an implant), using them as anchors.

Which is best for me?

The best way to find out which option is best for you is to call Dr. Dancu, your Bucks County dentist, and make an appointment to discuss solutions. Crowns and bridges both have their own set of positive and negative aspects. They both require any remaining teeth in the area to be shaved down or removed so that the implement will fit properly. A crown is often recommended when there is just one tooth missing, but a bridge might function just as well, depending on the patient and their needs.

We will work with you in order to find the very best solution for you and your needs. If you are starting to experience issues with an area where you have a missing tooth or you are concerned that you might need to have a tooth removed, we can help find a solution that ensures a beautiful, healthy smile.
